Superbowl Cake & Cupcakes

Admittedly, I’m not much of a sport's fan...but even I heard about the Deflate-Gate scandal!  It was one of the main pre-Super Bowl talking points, so I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. To make light of the situation (see what I did there?), I decided to make my own deflated football---out of cake!

First time using fondant.

I also made Super Bowl cupcakes using this tutorial. (I used Junior Mints for the tiny footballs instead of chocolate covered almonds.) I know absolutely nothing about football, so I made a 60-yard cupcake and a 70-yard cupcake before I thought to ask my husband how many yard lines are actually on a football field. Oops.

excuse the picture quality.

Little finger's got into the "grass."

What did you bake for the Super Bowl this year? Did any of your baked goods poke fun at the Deflate-Gate scandal?

  1. Very cool. You are ahead of me, I have still yet to try fondant on a cake. I've only done one figurine. Was it hard?

    1. This was store bought chocolate fondant. It was stressful, but fairly easy (I didn't like the taste though.) I recently made marshmallow fondant for a Cinderella carriage cake and it was harder to work with, but the taste was delicious and the cost to make it was pennies compared to the store-bought... i think it's worth the extra steps!
